The tablet market has to be one of the most over crowded markets ever. Just about every company has some type of tablet. From iPads to Galaxy Tabs, the prices for a tablet can range from anywhere. For people who don’t want to spend large amounts of money for a piece of plastic with a screen, usually go the budget route. Now there isn’t anything wrong with a budget tablet, they might be low on specs but they still get the job done. One company in particular plans to come out with a second generation to their budget tablet and could be on its way out pretty soon.
Discovered on the FCC’s website, Hewlett Packard’s affordable HP 7 Plus will be getting an upgrade. The HP 7 Plus is an entry level Android tablet that cost’s just $100. According to the FCC’s listing, an upgraded model of the HP 7 Plus will be on the way dubbed the HP 7 Plus G2. Details in the listing are vague, only informing us about the tablets 802.11b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth. The listing also tells us that the tablet will have mobile broadband with support for GPRS, EDGE, WCDMA, and HSPA networks. Since this is an upgraded model we will more than likely see an upgrade in specs. The previous model has a 7 inch display with 1024 x 600 resolution and a Allwinner A31 ARM Cortex-A7 quad-core processor. There is 1GB of RAM and 8GB of native storage for whatever it is you would need to keep on the device. The tablet also comes with a microSD card slot for expanded storage, WiFi, and just 5.5 hours of battery life.
The specs on the HP 7 Plus aren’t that great but we can keep our hopes high that the HP 7 Plus G2 will be better. Adding Bluetooth and 3G capabilities on a budget tablet is nice, but wouldn’t perform as well with low specs. A new processor, more RAM and storage will serve the G2 well. In addition, the HP 7 Plus G2 may very well sport some newer software. The last model ran on Jellybean, so hopefully with the Plus G2 on the way, we could see KitKat bars floating around.
