HTC Desire 510 on Sprint 9/19, Boost Mobile & Virgin Mobile 9/23

Even though Android is still a 32-bit operation system -that will soon change with the new Android L due to come out – it is nice to see that HTC threw in a 64-bit processor in its newest device, the HTC Desire 510…not to mention LTE capability.  This makes the reasonably priced, mid-range device desirable for both a number of markets.  Here, in the U.S. it is a perfect smartphone for newcomers, young people on a parent’s plan, or older folks that are moving from no-phone or flip-phone to a smartphone.  In emerging nations or places where they cannot afford a flagship device, the Desire 510 offers up the perfect choice. When the HTC Desire 510 was first announced, Peter Chou, CEO of HTC said, “Owning the latest and greatest technology shouldn’t be reserved for those with the highest budgets.” I’m not sure about the “latest and greatest technology,” but it is a nice device for the money.

Here in the U.S., Sprint just announced that the HTC Desire 510 would be coming to their network beginning on Friday, September 19.  It will be designed to take full advantage of Sprint’s Spark LTE network and Sprint HD Voice.  With Sprint’s Easy Pay, you can pick one up for $0 down and only $8.34 over the next 24 months ($199.99 excluding taxes) with a service plan…and we hope you like Blue, because Sprint is only offering one color. They will offer the White version on Boost Mobile on Monday, September 22 at retail stores and on their website with free shipping starting September 23 for $99.99.  Virgin Mobile customers can order the Blue Desire 510 beginning Tuesday, September 23, also for $99.99.

The HTC Desire 510 has a 4.7-inch FWVGA display with a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels.  Powering the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core 64-bit processor clocked at 1.2GHz. This is the first device to use the new low-end 64-bit SoC – it sports four Cortex-AA53 cores and an Adreno 306 CPU.  It has a 5MP main camera and a VGA front-facing camera (ffc) for selfies.  Out-of-the-box it will have Android 4.4 KitKat with Sense 6.
