As part of IFA, HTC today announced their HTC Desire 820 smartphone packing a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 and we already have its benchmarks available, courtesy of Phone Arena. If you take a look at the image below this article you’ll notice results from 2 different benchmark applications, GFXBench and Vellamo Metal. Keep in mind that Phone Arena ran this benchmarks on a demo unit, so the results may differ on a retail one. As you can see in the benchmarks below, HTC Desire 820 has scored higher than the HTC One (packing Snapdragon 600) in both benchmark applications, 3 tests overall. It seems that HTC’s new 64-bit Snapdragon 615 is a rather capable piece of technology, it’s going to be interesting to see it in live performance, though we have no doubt its performance will be excellent considering how Snapdragon 400 and 600 (which are technically weaker processors) perform.
Other than the aforementioned 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615, Desire 820 features 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage expandable via MicroSD card up to 128GB. On the front you can find the usual array of sensors, an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, a 5.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display and a pair of well-known HTC BoomSound speakers which offer a stereo sound quality. 13-megapixel BSI camera can be found on the back of the device. 2,600mAh battery is also featured as well as Android 4.4.2 KitKat with HTC’s Sense 6 UI on top of it.
HTC Desire 820 is a rather well-looking device made out of a unibody polycarbonate shell and I have no doubt many people will love its design. The question is how well will it sell, that will of course depend on its price which is unknown at this point. HTC’s co-founder and CEO Peter Chou said the device will have a competitive price though, we’ll see. The device will be available in a bunch of different colors to suit everyone, black, white, pink, red and turquoise.
