Today, the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 arrived on my doorstep from the awesome folks at Huawei. They were kind enough to send over the Ascend Mate 7, which they announced at IFA earlier this month. It’s basically a much more high-end Ascend Mate. It’s got a bigger battery, a better display, and a more high-end processor. We’ve had it in hand for a few hours now and were able to get some first impressions down. So what do we think of the Ascend Mate 7 so far?
As soon as you take it out of the box, you can tell that this is a high-end device. The packaging is even pretty high-end. The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 has a metal body on the back and the sides while the front is basically all glass. It looks great, and is nowhere near as slippery as HTC’s One M8 is. Which is definitely a good thing. I said on Google+ earlier today, that the Ascend Mate 7’s build quality is a huge improvement over the Ascend Mate 2. We checked out the Mate 2 earlier this summer, and found that in terms of build quality, it was just a fatter and larger Galaxy Note 2.
On the software side, Huawei has totally revamped their Emotion UI. It’s got quite a bit of Android L hints inside, which is very cool to see. And probably smart on their part. I was talking internally with one of our other editors earlier, and we determined that they did this so when it gets updated to Android L, it’s not as big of a difference in the UI. As that can confuse customers, surprisingly. But I’m definitely liking the Android L features in here.
We haven’t had a whole lot of time with it yet, so we can’t write a full review yet. But we are definitely anxious to see how well it performs. Especially with the large 4100mAh battery that’s inside. If you’re interested, make sure to check back in about 2 weeks or so for our full review.
