We’ve been waiting for Huawei to come out and lay out its plans in order to compete with Meizu and Xiaomi in China, but the China-based manufacturer has been rather quiet lately. Up until now at least, the company has introduced the Honor Tablet. This is an 8-inch tablet on which you can make phone calls if you want, this is a 3G device. The device features an 8-inch 1280 x 800 IPS display along with 1GB of RAM an 16GB of internal storage. This tablet is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz. 5-megapixel camera is located on the back of the device while there’s a 0.3-megapixel camera up front. 4800mAh battery should give you plenty of power and as I said, this is a 3G HSPA+ device and it supports speeds up to 42Mbps. Honor Tablet is 7.9mm thick and it comes with Android 4.3 pre-installed with Huawei’s Emotion UI 1.6 running on top of it. Pre-orders for this device start in Malaysia on September 29th and it’s priced at RM 599.00, which is around $183. The device will launch on October 16th. Huawei even has a contest in place, every 50th pre-order through their VMall.my site gives the buyer one entry, the grand prize is the Honor Tablet.
This isn’t exactly what I had in mind when I said that Huawei needs something to compete with Meizu and Xiaomi, though this device will launch in Malaysia, so I guess it’s not supposed to be competing with the mentioned manufacturers anyway. Huawei is a rather interesting manufacturer, they do release something great from time to time, but are prone to releasing low-mid range devices. I guess that’s company’s policy or something because I’m sure Huawei has the technology and finances to really awe us. It remains to be seen what will they release next, hopefully we’ll see a high-end smartphone or tablet coming from Huawei in the coming months. This Honor Tablet is really nothing special, it’s not supposed to be special either, this is a mid-range device at the very best. I’d even argue there are better tablets available for this price, but that’s just me.
