At the start of September we saw a lot of major announcements and new releases from all the big companies including Samsung and Motorola. In particular Motorola at their ‘Moto Launch Experience’ released the long awaited smartwatch, the Moto 360 as well as updating versions of both the Moto X and G smartphones. With the release of such a highly awaited smartwatch it was not that surprising that Motorola also launched a series of software improvements as well as the new hardware releases. One of these features which grabbed a lot of attention was ‘Moto Voice’. In reality, this is not a new feature per se but instead the re-branding of their old Motorola ‘Touch Control’ feature. For those of you unfamiliar with this feature, it is pretty much “OK Google” but adapted for Motorola. As such you can do all the neat OK Google features like use voice commands to check the weather, plan directions and generally request information.
As this is tweaked by Motorola you can also expect a number of unique features such as customized voice commands and wider Motorola device support. It now seems the Moto Voice App has received its first major update and with this brings a number of new features and device compatibility. Most of these new features were expected and had been reported before although now with the new update they seem to be rolling out across the Motorola network. If you haven’t received your update yet then try not to worry as it will probably land in the coming hours and days. According to the official changelog some of the features you can now expect include voice recognition from your Moto 360. In addition, you can customize your own launch phrases so Moto Voice only responds to you.
There is only voice command support for popular apps such as YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp. Users will also be able to turn on Talk To me and additional Moto modes via voice command. Users can also expect the obligatory improvements and bug fixes. However, the changelog does note that currently Moto Voice is only compatible with Android 4.4 (KitKat). Support for Moto Voice also now currently includes a number of 2013 devices including Droid Ultra, Droid Mini, Droid Maxx and the first generation Moto X. So have you received the new update yet?
