Motorola’s Senior VP of product management Punit Soni announced today that he will be stepping down from his position at the company. He hasn’t mentioned what he will be doing in the absence of being at Motorola, nor what may have caused his decision to depart from Motorola in the first place. Punit joined the ranks at Motorola while it was still under Google ownership, and his presence can be felt through many things like the quick updates that users of the current and recent Motorola products hold in their hands.
He can be attributed by many as having a major role in breathing new life into Motorola right around the time we saw the release for the first Moto X. While he was with Google the Moto X, Moto G, and Moto E all launched last year, and we saw quick and timely updates come to all of those devices ensuring a great software experience for consumers when newer Android OS versions were released by Google. With his departure many feel that it will begin to spell some bad news for future products coming from Motorola, and while it might not be that huge of an impact, it’s very likely that we may not end up with the same experience that we had while he was overseeing things, although we hope that Motorola will be able to continue delivering on all the positives that they have been consistent with since Punit joined the team.
Punit is surely moving onto something that will be his next step, although speculations are already brewing that the Lenovo deal may have something to do with him leaving. We’ll leave any of those speculations out as we simply have no idea what the reason is. For active users in the G+ community, many of who are Motorola fans and users of the more recent products, his leaving the company is felt a little more perhaps as he was a fairly big conversationalist through G+ with posts regarding Motorola updates or products, something that plenty of users appreciated him for. Motorola still looks to have a bright future with everything they just announced, although we’d be lying if we said that we didn’t think things would be better with Soni still on board.
