Samsung's New Gear S Smartwatch Gets Some Bling

Samsung and Swarovski have had a partnership for a long time now. Swarovski, who is a global leader in cut crystal and fashion jewelry, have been making straps and cases for Samsung devices as part of “Swarovski for Samsung” collection. Recently Samsung Galaxy S5, Gear Fit and Galaxy Note 3 got some bling by Swarovski. Now Swarovski and Samsung have added yet another member to the list of devices with Swarovski Crystals.

The device in questions is Samsung’s recently announced Tizen-based smartwatch Gear S, as you can see in the image above. “One of the key aspects in wearable devices is providing diverse options for consumers to freely express their own taste and style. Our ongoing collaboration with Swarovski as demonstrated in the new Gear S Strap, allows us to stay ahead of trends and on the cutting-edge of design and style.” said Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, IT & Mobile Division at Samsung. While Christoph Kargruber, who is an Executive Vice President of Global Marketing at Swarovski, said the following: “Samsung and Swarovski share a commitment to bringing high-quality, highly desirable products to the consumer market. Together we will continue to write the success story we began with the ‘Swarovski for Samsung’ collection.” Samsung Gear S is sporting a 2-inch 480 x 260 Super AMOLED display along with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. Unknown (for now) dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz is under the hood of this smartwatch. Gear S is IP67 certified which means you can put it under water up to 1 meter and it can be there up to 30 minutes. This also means the watch is dust resistant.

This Gear S strap by Swarovski will be available on the Samsung online store and at experience stores in October. Samsung also announced that they will expand their “Swarovski for Samsung” collection by adding their upcoming flagship device to the list. I guess they mean the upcoming Galaxy Note 4, despite the fact people still consider Samsung’s Galaxy S line to be their flagship line. These Swarovskified accessories aren’t exactly meant for everyone of course, considering the accessory alone usually costs a couple of hundred dollars. Samsung didn’t mention anything about the pricing of this accessory at this time though.
