Sony Teases Waterproof Capabilities Of Their Device(s) Ahead Of IFA

Sony keeps on hitting us with teasers ahead of their IFA event. In a tweet from Sony UK, this Japan-based giant has teased the waterproof feature of its upcoming device(s). “We’ll be getting deep at #IFA2014. But how deep..? #SonyIFA” was the content of their tweet along with an image of a pool and a text which points to at least 2 meters of depth under water Sony’s device(s) will be able to achieve. As you might remember, Sony recently announced their Xperia M2 Aqua smartphone. This device wasn’t exactly a high-end device, however, as its name suggests it has an interesting water-related feature. This device comes with IP68 waterproof certification which allows the device to dive up to 1.5 meters under water and be there for 30 minutes. This certification also means the device is dust resistant. Sony is teasing at least 2 meters of depth for at least one of their upcoming smartphones, could this mean they’re about to bring IP69 certification to one of their devices? Quite probably.

Sony is expected to introduce a bunch of their products at their IFA event this year which will take place on September 3rd. Sony Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact are all expected to appear there. There have been some rumors Sony Smartwatch 3 and SmartBand Talk will also be featured at Sony’s IFA event. Nothing is confirmed just yet, but Sony did tease 2 smartphones and a tablet in one of their teasers, so I’m rather certain we’ll see Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact and Z3 Tablet Compact launched in a few days. Sony’s upcoming flagship, Xperia Z3, is expected to feature a 5.2-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) Triluminous display along with a Snapdragon 801 quad-core chip and 3GB of RAM. 16GB of internal storage (expandable via MicroSD card) is also expected as well as a 20.7-megapixel main camera. 2-megapixel shooter will allegedly be located at the front of the device. Xperia Z3 Compact is expected to sport the same specs as its bigger brother, except for the display (4.6-inch 720 or 1080p panel is expected) and a battery. Same can be said about the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, same specs with a bigger 8-inch 1080p display, bigger battery and a different rear-facing camera (probably an 8-megapixel shooter).
