The Moto X is official. And well we have one in hand. Motorola is going to be launching it later this month on all four US carriers. Motorola will be offering it for just $499, which is actually a pretty good price when all things are considered. We’ve got a smartphone here with a 5.2-inch Full HD 1080p AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of storage, 2300mAh battery, and a 13MP camera, that actually appears to be pretty good. And Motorola is selling that for $499 off contract, or $99 on contract. Plus all the MotoMaker stuff, which includes 5 leather backs and 5 wood backs now. We have the black leather version here, and it feels amazing.
Motorola has launched their Trade-In program, which will allow you to trade in your current smartphone for up $300 off a new Moto X. If you have a Nexus 5, that’s in good shape they’ll give you $85. Not a lot, especially since you could probably do better on Swappa or eBay. But it is better than nothing I guess. These trade in offers are usually not all that great, which makes me wonder how many people actually use the program. All you have to do is go to www.motorolatradein.com and enter your phone’s info and you’ll get a quote. Then you’ll be given a shipping label to send back your device to be appraised and then you’ll get your credit towards a new Moto X.
There’s no need to rush in and try and trade in your old phone to pick up a Moto X just yet as we don’t have any specific dates just yet. But we should see the Moto X launching on AT&T and Verizon very soon (at least with MotoMaker support) and other carriers in the UK, Germany, France and Mexico.
