Android Wear App Receives Update To Version 1.0.2

Well it looks like Google has pushed out what appears to be a somewhat minor update to the Android Wear app. This update brings the app up to version 1.0.2 and adds about 3MB to the APK’s total size. As of right no there is no changelog that we can see but Android Police does point out one change that they have noticed in the update, an updated Google Play Services for wearables. The updated Google Play Services is a jump to version 6.1.11 from version 5.0.91.

We speculate that this update was pushed out to prepare Android Wear devices for the inevitable significant update that will be hitting Android Wear devices on the 15th of this month. We are of course talking about the update to Android Wear 2.0, a very substantial update to Android Wear devices that will more than likely add support for things like Bluetooth headphones and GPS. A lot of people are very excited for this update to Android Wear 2.0 and this small update today may be the firs sign of this update coming.

Not only is this update more than likely prepping Android Wear for future features and capabilities, but it may also improve battery life of Android Wear devices, so be on the lookout for that. Other features included in the update remain a mystery until people like Android Police preform an APK teardown to see what’s hidden in the code. Although, Android Police did mention taking a quick look at the APK and finding references to something pretty exciting, personal unlocking. This is the ability to have your Android Wear device become a trusted Bluetooth device, this means that if you were to be wearing your Android wear device then you would not have a lockscreen on your phone. This would eliminate the need for a lockscreen when your phone is in your possession and not a thief’s.

If you own an Android Wear device than you should definitely be checking the Google Play Store to see if you have received the update yet,  you can do so by clicking here. Once you guys have the update let us know what you think or if you find any new features added to Android Wear.
