Google+ isn’t getting much love from Mountain View recently, but that doesn’t mean the platform is dead. Far from it, in fact. The Google+ app just got an update that brought a lot of Material Design to the application. Android Police did a tear down of the APK and found a couple of interesting tidbits in the app source code. According to what they have uncovered, Google+ could soon be getting a Celebrities Category Card, user-generated polls, and added support for Android Wear functionality. The celebrity card thing sounds a lot like what Twitter shows you when you first sign up. Google+ users would be presented with options for famous people to add to their circles, giving their experience with the social network a jump-start. Google wants to make this an easy process and get people up and running with feeds that they find interesting. The celebrity card will have a title on the top, describing the category or group and how it pertains to the user. The card will have a row of celebrities underneath that. This card has been rumored before and could be rolled out to new and existing users anytime.
Next up we have a new polling card that will allow users to create voting polls. This sounds like almost every other voting/polling system available on Facebook and elsewhere around the internet. Users will be able to add multiple response options and even add photos to the poll. The polls won’t be anonymous though, so your name will be tied to what you vote on. Polls can be limited to certain people or groups, however. The polls look like their almost ready and could be rolled out soon, just like the celebrity cards.
Lastly, the Google+ app should be getting some updated Android Wear compatibility. This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone as most Google apps are being steadily updated with new Wear features. The new Google+ Wear functionality looks like the stacked notifications like those used in Gmail. There probably won’t be a stand-alone Google+ Wear app, but rich notifications will be part of the main app. Android Police always does a great job with these APK teardowns.
