Only four days after the recently reactivated @DroidLanding Twitter account posted a leaked press render of the new Motorola Droid Turbo, we have an official launch date. Based on the countdown on Verizon’s Droid Does site, we only have to wait until October 28th for the new phone’s release. The Turbo is the latest model in the Droid lineup to be released by Motorola. According to what we know from what has already been leaked, there is a lot to be excited about in this phone.
The first piece in a long list of high-end hardware is the 5.2 in UltraHD (QHD) Display on the front, underneath a centered front camera. Although specs on the front camera have not be released, we know the camera on the rear of the Turbo will be an impressive 21 MP camera with a dual LED flash. Also impressive is the device’s enormous 3,900 mAh battery. This is even larger than last year’s Droid Maxx, which had a 3,500 mAh battery. The list of high-end specs continues on with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. With a name like Turbo, we would expect the phone to be quick. Motorola has decided to use the quad-core Snapdragon 805, clocked at 2.7 GHz, so this phone will likely live up to its name. The phone will use Verizon’s 4G LTE network and is also equipped with NFC capability. In addition to Qi wireless charging, the Turbo will be compatible with Motorola’s Turbo charger. The Turbo charger is capable of bringing a Moto X to 50% charge in around 30 minutes, so we can expect excellent charging times here even with the gargantuan battery.
Taking a cue from the Moto X, the Turbo will support all of Motorola’s popular apps, like Moto Actions, Moto Assist, Moto Display, Moto Migrate, and Moto Voice. The handset will be shipping with a nearly stock version of Android as well. With these specs and features, Motorola is clearly aiming this device to be the best-equipped phone in its class, and if the rumors are to be believed, we won’t be disappointed. No details on pricing have been announced yet, but October 28 is right around the corner so stay tuned.
