On stage during their event in New York, HTC just officially announced the Desire Eye and it’s pretty much exactly what we thought it’d be. A device that’s cut out of HTC’s Desire line which aims to be the right about of performance and features balanced with a price that everyone can afford. It’s called the Desire Eye, because it features all of HTC’s new Eye camera experience. As for hardware, it’s a device that features much of what we’ve come to expect from HTC. The Desire Eye is a device that’s poised to sit just below the M8 in HTC’s lineup and what makes it special is that the Desire Eye sports a 13-megapixel feature around the front and the rear. You’ll be viewing those photos and videos on a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS display, which is a sizable upgrade from other Desire entries.
The Eye Camera experience means that the Desire Eye will be able to take selfies automatically using a gesture, and thanks to the dual-LED flash that adorns the front of the Eye, these selfies should be great in whatever lighting you have to work with. With the Eye Experience, you’ll be able to also speak “say cheese” to take a photo and Zoe has been vastly improved and will soon to be available to all Android smartphones. With 13-megapixel cameras at both the rear and front of the HTC Desire Eye, and a Snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.3 Ghz it’s clear that HTC doesn’t want this Desire to be thought of in the same light as the likes of the 820 and co. It’s got 2GB of RAM as well as 16GB of expandable storage, too. That 13-megapixel camera has an f/2.0 aperture and a 28mm wide-angle lens to look out of and it should be one of the better cameras to grace a Desire device. Powering everything is a 2,400 mAh battery and this guy is IPX7 water resistance, with BoomSound speakers as well.
This is one of the best Desire devices that HTC has ever released and it’s actually a strange move for them, in a range of devices with nothing but numbers after their name comes a device dubbed the ‘Eye’. A device that also sports far superior specs and features, making it all a little confusing as to why HTC is still calling this a Desire. Still, the 5.2-inch Full HD device will be available later this year and it’ll be interesting to see just how much this Desire costs in comparison.
