HTC Desire Eye launches in India

On Friday, 17th October, HTC announced that it would be selling the HTC Desire Eye in India starting from late November. The device will be sold exclusively on Amazon India and pricing for it will be revealed before its availability on the market.

As the name might suggest, the HTC Desire Eye is named as such because it boasts a front-facing camera that has the same resolution as the back-facing camera. Both house 13 megapixels and are accompanied with a dual-LED flash, as well as having the ability to shoot video at 1080p at 30fps. The focus here is clearly for users who like taking a high number of selfies with their phones, following the footsteps of other companies, such as the Sony Xperia C3 or the Nokia Lumia 735, both of which house a high resolution camera on the front of the phone.

As well as including such a high-resolution front-facing camera, HTC has also developed a new camera app suite, called the HTC Eye experience, which includes the latest version of HTC Zoe, an app designed by the company that stitches together videos and photos. The phone also comes with certain camera features that are not seen on other phones, such as Split Capture, which allows users to take photos using both cameras simultaneously (similar to the popular app Frontback), Crop-Me-In, which allows users to crop themselves into other photos, and others.

Other specifications for the phone include a 5.2 inch full-HD LCD display, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, microSD slot, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, a 24000mAh battery. The phone also has front-facing speakers, with HTC’s own BoomSound technology on board.

HTC will also launch the RE camera and the One M8 Eye at the same time in India. The One M8 Eye is essentially a One M8 with a 13 megapixel camera, whilst the RE camera is HTC’s plunge into the world of handheld cameras, which is dominated by the likes of the GoPro. The camera houses a 16 megapixel camera, with a lens by Sony, and is shaped roughly like an inhaler. The RE camera will reportedly sell for Rs. 9,990  whilst the One M8 Eye will sell for Rs. 38,990.
