Huawei Honor Holly Looking To Bite Into Android One Market In India

In terms of the smartphone market India is big business these days and certainly even more so since the recent launch of Android One in this region. With the inclusion of Android One devices from Karbonn, Micromax and Spice the market looks set to change quite radically. Android One has brought with it a certainly guaranteed quality and spec list and at an extremely affordable price. As such it was only a matter of time before the other non-local manufacturers decided to try and offer a rival. It now seems Huawei are one of the first to throw their hat into the ring.

Only recently Huawei launched their newest top-spec device, the Huawei Honor 6 in India. As this is one of their better devices so was the price with a Rs 19,999 (roughly $445) tag attached. Around about the same time as the high-end Honor 6 launch Huawei also announced they would be releasing a more pocket-friendly device in India under the guise Huawei Honor Holly. This was announced two weeks ago and was expected to launch for roughly half the cost of the Honor 6 at Rs 9,999 (roughly $223). Since then the device has now been fully announced to India and surprisingly it is coming in significantly cheaper than had been expected with a much reduced price tag. Yep, the Honor Holly will now sell for Rs 6,999 which roughly equates to $118 and will be available to buy from October 16th via Flipkart. This is significantly cheaper then had been previously expected and clearly does show Huawei’s attempt to bite into the lucrative Android One market.

So as always the big question – What do you get for $118? Well the Honor Holly comes with a 5″ LTPS display with a 1280 x 720 resolution. Insides the device offers 1GB RAM and is powered by a Kirin quad-core processor (clocks at 1.3GHz). In terms of memory the device will come with 16GB internal storage along with the standard microSD card slot. The rear camera provided consists of an 8MP shooter while the front offering will be a 2MP camera. Additional features on offer include a 2,000 mAh battery, Dual-SIM, Bluetooth, 3G and GPS. The Honor Holly will come running on Android 4.4. (KitKat) although with Huawei’s Emotion UI layered on top. So how does Honor Holly sound? Good enough for $118? Possible contender for Android One? Let us know what you think and if you will be buying.
