Not simply content with manufacturing smartphones and tablets anymore a number of OEMs seem to be venturing into the processor market and trying their hand at manufacturing their own processors. It was recently noted that Samsung have been long working on their own processor which is expecting to be included in their devices next year. Similarly, the other South Korean tech company LG are also working on their own processor which is going by the codename Odin. We have actually known about Odin since late 2013 although a lot of the information on the processor and its likely use has been rumors and speculation. Only yesterday it was reported that the Odin processor will be launched possible in the next week and maybe in a device carrying “G3” in its name. Well half of this rumor was right as it does seem to be launching now. Interestingly back in July tipster @upleaks suggested that the processor would debut on a device under the model number F490L. Well we can know tell you that the F490L is the LG Liger and this does actually seem to be the device which will first be powered by LG’s Odin processor. It is possible that a G3 variant will still be the first flagship device to run on Odin but it does look like Liger will be the first testing of the processor in the open market
Like Odin the LG Liger has also been rumored for some time with the most recent information that the device has just passed through Bluetooth certification. However today a leaked image has popped up taken by an eagle-eyed snapper showing the Liger and providing the current information that it will be powered by Odin. Speaking of which it’s time to clear up another rumor. It now seems that Odin is not actually called Odin anymore but going under the name Nuclun. Furthermore, it now seems the chipset will have an octa-core CPU with four cores clocking at 1.5 GHz and four at 1.2 GHz. In addition, the chipset will support Cat.6 LTE which basically will allow for peak download speeds of up to 300Mbps in theory.
Want to know a bit more about Liger? Well the new LG device is phablet sized with a 5.9-inch 1080p display. Inside, the device will come with 2GB RAM and obviously powered by the Nuclun octa-core processor. In terms of cameras Liger offers a 13MP rear camera (with OIS+) and a more modest 2.1MP front shooter. The device will be powered by a 3,000 mAh battery and come as a 32GB internal memory variant. In terms of availability details are minimal with the only expectation that the device will launch in South Korea. There is no indication (as yet) that there will be an international variant and as such the new G3 still could be the first proper Nuclun powered LG device
