The Chinese manufacturer, Meizu, is slowly starting to send out its newest flagship, the MX4, now to Malaysia by the end of the month. It is selling like a wildfire spreading across China and has become very popular, as well it should for its combination of quality materials and specs for a very reasonable price. The device is already for sale on Meizu’s website for $449 for the 16GB model and $489 for the 32GB model – this price includes shipping and all related taxes to select markets in Europe, North America, Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Meizu’s CEO Bai Yongxian claims they have received orders for 7.7 million of the MX4.
The Meizu is making quite a splash in the international market – it is a true flagship in every sense on the world and is the first worldwide device to use the new MediaTek Octa-Core MT6595 processor. It uses a pair of quad-core Cortex-A17’s clocked at 2.2GHz and Cortex-A7’s clocked at 1.7GHz, utilizing the big.LITTLE and Core Pilot Technology for all eight cores, allowing it to switch between the larger or smaller cores depending on the application…this increases performance and saves on battery life. The processor is hooked up to 2GB of RAM and offers fast and smooth performance.
The 5.3-inch display is not your customary 16:9 ratio, but a 5:3 that gives the user a slightly wider view for easier to read websites, books, etc. It is the Full HD variety, which means in this case a 1920 x 1152 pixel resolution and 418 pixels-per-inch (PPI) – it’s a quality IPS display made by Sharp and almost goes from edge-to-edge. The camera is also top-notch and is the 20.7MP Exmor RS from Sony with auto focus and dual-LED flash and this is followed up with a 5MP front-facing camera (FFC) for video chatting and selfies. The MX4 has a nice sized 3100mAh battery for power and all of the usual Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and microUSB 2.0 port for charging and data transfer. It has a bottom mounted speaker and a sturdy metal design from aircraft grade aluminum and measure in at 144 x 75.2 x 7.9mm and weighs in a 147 grams.
