Meizu isn’t a name you’re likely too familiar with if you’re living outside of China. In the past they’ve delivered some pretty solid phones and are mainly a direct competitor to other Chinese companies like Xiaomi and Oppo, and their latest flagship easily matches that of other competitors in both price and specs. Meizu has been making Android phones since 2011 and kept up with the spec arms race every year since then, releasing a new flagship MX phone every year. This year the Meizu MX4 launched to eager Fall phone buyers, and we’ve got one today to show off.
The packaging for the Meizu MX4 is a little bit different from some other phones out there. Many phones stick to a pretty clear-cut phone sized box, but Meizu has opted for a slightly larger box, possibly just to stand out from the crowd on store shelves. Inside you’ll find the standard fare; a USB cable with a micro-USB port on one end and a regular-sized USB port on the other, charging cable, and of course the phone.
What’s slightly different in here is the inclusion of a manual of sorts that the phone actually comes in. This is an interesting sort of thing as I’ve never seen this in a phone box before, but it’s a little introduction to what you’re about to get yourself into, and it’s pretty darned cool. It’s a little 4-page booklet of sorts that’s inside of a hard Styrofoam-type material that also houses the phone itself. It gives a little explanation of Meizu’s custom OS, Flyme 4.0, and how it’s a little bit different than the usual Android skin. It also talks about the quality of the camera and how it’s better than your average Android camera because it uses Sony’s 20.7 megapixel 1/2.3″ sensor that’s found in the Xperia Z series. We’ll give you even more info in our hands-on article and a couple of sample shots coming up too.
