If you’re up on your tech then there is no way you could have missed the news about the DROID Turbo. For a brief recap, the joint venture between Motorola and Verizon has finally been unveiled and the Motorola DROID Turbo is here. This is the latest addition to the DROID range family and looks set to be a good seller. The device was only officially announced yesterday at a Verizon launch in New York and in spite of just being announced is due to go on sale tomorrow starting from $199.99 on a 2 year contract…with Verizon obviously.
If you live outside of the US and therefore out of Verizon’s grasp then you may not care so much knowing that the DROID Turbo could never be yours. Well, that might not be totally true. Reports are coming in that the DROID Turbo might be getting an international release. Before you get too excited, at the moment the only news is that a device is due to hit the Brazilian market in the next couple of weeks under the guise the Moto Maxx. However, the press images which have been sent out to the Brazilian media show what clearly looks to be the Turbo. At least from the back. So whats with the name change? Well, this makes sense to be honest as ‘Droid’ is owned by Lucasfilm and is licensed out to Verizon. Note that’s licensed to Verizon and not to Motorola. As such if Motorola wants to make the Turbo available to other markets then they need to under a different name, hence the Moto Maxx.
The Brazilian launch is scheduled for November 10th and as such we will know much more by then and if this is actually the Droid Turbo. However, the early indicators certainly suggest so. Now that the DROID Turbo…I mean Moto Maxx might be available internationally do you need a quick reminder on what’s on offer? Well, it comes with a 5″ Quad HD AMOLED display. Inside the device is loaded with 3GB RAM and a Snapdragon 805 processor with Qualcomm’s Turbo Charge technology. In terms of cameras you get a 21MP rear shooter and a more modest 2MP front facing camera. The device is available as 32 and 64GB variants and running on Android 4.4.4 while powered by a very large 3900mAh battery.
