Motorola and Verizon Announces the DROID Turbo Complete with Snapdragon 805 and Quad HD Display

Today, at an event in New York City, Motorola and Verizon got together to introduce us to the next big thing, in terms of the DROID Family. And that is the Motorola DROID Turbo. And man it’s a beast. It’s basically a Nexus 6 Mini, in terms of specs. Motorola has put the kevlar back on the back of the DROID Turbo once again, and we kind of figured that. Even though the DROID Ultra last year had the glossy plastic with the DROID Maxx being Kevlar.

As far as specs go, we’re looking at a 5.2-inch 2560×1440 resolution AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor with 3GB of RAM. It’s also sporting 32GB of internal storage, with a 21MP camera on the back. It is actually the same camera that the Sony Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3v all have. And from our time with the Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3v, it’s a pretty amazing camera. So we’re expecting great things from this one. There’s also a 3900mAh battery in there, which Motorola is quoting with 48 hours of battery life. And looking back at their previous devices, we hold that as being true. As far as software goes, it’s Android 4.4.4 on board with Moto Voice, Moto Actions, Moto Assist, Moto Display, Motorola Migrate, Droid Zap, Highlight Reel, EAC, Quick Office, Zap Zone, Zap to TV, Zap with Voice.

Motorola has added a ballistic Nylon leather this time around. Which is the same material found on backpacks. In addition to the kevlar back that they’ve been using for a few years.

Motorola and Verizon are also packing in the Motorola Turbo charger with the DROID Turbo. Which is normally around $50. The Nexus 6 will also have this out of the box. The DROID Turbo will be available in both Metallic Red and Metallic Black, for those wondering. We should be getting hands on with the Motorola DROID Turbo in the next few minutes and as soon as we do, we’ll be sure to post those on the site.

As far as pricing goes, the DROID Mini will be free on contract, the DROID Maxx will also remain at Verizon for $99. The Droid Turbo will be $199 and $249 on contract from Verizon. The Motorola DROID Turbo will be launching on Thursday, October 30th.
