Better late than never as it is always a great day for hockey – even though the season is already underway, 2K just updated their NHL game for Android. I have to admit that although I was born, raised and I am now back to live in Pittsburgh, I am not a huge hockey fan – I get excited if the Penguins make the play-offs. I follow the day-to-day scores on a sports app that sends me notifications and I will tell my wife if the Penguins won or lost, but I doubt that qualifies me as a hockey fan…certainly not in Pittsburgh! However, I do have to say from a techie point of view, the newly revamped NHL 2K is awesome looking, but then it should be for $7.99. I must tell you that the Play Store does list “Offer in-app Purchases,” but I am not sure that is the case as there is no purchase details at the bottom of the page and the iOS version does not have any to speak of.
The NHL 2K franchise has been around for about a decade in one form or another, but has finally settled on the mobile platform for iOS and Android – 2K also offer the popular MyNBA2K15 and WWE SuperCard. 2K claims that this year’s version of NHL 2K is the most life-like with enhanced graphics and live roster updates and a refined gaming experience with something to satisfy every hockey fan, and being mobile, you can enjoy it at home or on the road.
Many new game modes are fast-paced and challenging – like the three-on-three mini-rink mode with a fast-paced arcade-like experience. Multiplayer turn-based penalty shootouts and an in depth career mode where you can focus on one player and build up their skill points to build up their ratings over multiple seasons.
