Oppo's R5 Is A Super-Thin 4.85mm Smartphone Powered by a Snapdragon 615 And 2GB Of RAM

Oppo recently held a press conference in Singapore and announced company’s new Oppo N3 flagship. That’s not all this Chinese manufacturer announced though, Oppo R5 was also showcased next to Oppo’s new flagship. This device is 4.85mm thick, I thought it’s best to get that out of the way first considering this is the thinnest phone around at the moment, at least I believe it is. Elife S5.1 was the thinnest device around up to now, being only 5.15mm thick. We’ve heard rumors that Oppo might announce something like this recently and the company sure did that, we didn’t have to wait long. N3 is clearly Oppo’s new flagship device, but Oppo R5 is no slouch either, not by a long shot.

The R5 features a 5.2-inch 1080p AMOLED display, which is smaller than the N3’s, but the resolution is same which means this display has a higher PPI count and is just as beautiful. Oppo packed 2GB of RAM into this device as well as 16GB of internal storage. This handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 SoC, a 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 2.1GHz. On the back of the device, you’ll be able to find a 13-megapixel camera which sports Sony’s Exmor IMX214 sensor and f2.0 aperture. This handset also sports VOOC rapid charging like the Oppo Find 7 and Oppo N3, which should provide crazy fast charging times to its 2000mAh battery. It gives Oppo N3’s 3000mAh battery 75% of battery after just 30 minutes of charging, which means R5 should charge even quicker than that. Talking about battery, 2000mAh isn’t exactly a big unit, especially if we consider the 5.2-inch 1080p display which is sucking battery life, it’s going to be interesting to see battery test on this bad boy. 148.9 x 74.5 x 4.85mm are Oppo N3’s measurements and the device weighs 155 grams. Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS are all included here of course.

Oppo R5 is a 4G LTE capable device and it ships with Android 4.4 KitKat with Oppo’s ColorOS 2.0 on top of it. The device will be available in Silver, Grey and Gold colors for $499 in the following months. The device will quite probably launch in China first and will make its way from there.
