Say what you want about Sony’s lack of presence in the U.S. mobile market for a couple of years with the high end Xperia line, or rather most of the Xperia line, but if there’s one thing they know how to do well it’s how to make their phones withstand harsh conditions. The Xperia Z3 is the latest and currently most resistant to water and dust, but it started with older variations of the flagship series. Sony may not have the marketing power of Samsung in terms of sheer mass to display these features to a larger audience, but they still know how to market their products well, and smart. Which is evident by the report that they’re going to be opening an underwater store to sell smartphones and tablets from their Xperia line.
If this wasn’t a brilliant way to get the word out that your stuff is made well, we don’t what is. Sony has long been a fan of the waterproofing feature and it’s safe to say that they’re very proud of what they have achieved with their devices in that regard so far. An underwater store for selling your waterproof devices is just as about as smart as one company could get, and to be quite honest it sounds like a fun and interactive way for the consumer to experience the products. Take a dip, check out our smartphones and tablets, and see how they perform, under water.
The reports about the store come from the Arabian Gazette, who states that the aquatic retail location is located off of the coast of Dubai called and called the Xperia Aquatech Store. Given its location it won’t be easy to check the store out for yourself on a whim, but if you ever find yourself in Dubai why not stroll on in and see what the fuss is about. The store is said to be opening up December 3rd, although it wasn’t clear if it will be open to the public or just to members of the press and certain specific individuals. Also worth noting, is the fact that anyone who visits the Aquatech Store will apparently get escort assistance from a trained diver, and once inside the store people will be able to walk on the sea floor and breathe normally. It’s a rather interesting move by Sony, and it’s certainly one way to get your message across.
