HTC has been updating their devices recently with news of the HTC One M8 on T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless, as well as some international models reported by users in Europe, bringing them forward to Android 4.4.4 Kit Kat which not only brought a few bug fixes and improvements to the software, but also came with the newly announced HTC Eye Experience software that includes a host of new camera features that make taking pictures a whole lot more fun. Sprint started updating the HTC One M8 today too, although this update doesn’t seem to be the one including the Eye Experience software, unfortunately. It does still however bring in some new features and little tweaks. Even though this update is minor, Sprint customers using this phone should appreciate it.
The HTC One E8, the M8’s close cousin with a plastic unibody design is beginning to get an update today too, and it appears that the update includes largely the same stuff, once again without any Eye Experience software on board. While Sprint subscribers are still having to wait for the new camera suite of features, the wait will give them something to look forward to. For today, it seems that the most major part of the update on both devices brings in international WiFi calling support. Sprint has been rolling out the WiFi calling feature to devices on their network for a little while, and now that includes both E8 and the M8. The WiFi calling feature does allow for free international calls, but only to certain areas which include calls to, from, and between users in the U.S. the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. If you’re dialing outside of those locations, you’ll still end up paying the amount for minute rates that you did before the update.
In addition, the update also includes a Google security patch and GPS enhancements,(GPS enhancements are always a good things to have)as well as ItsOn integration and some improvements to the accessibility features embedded in those devices. As we stated these are just small, incremental changes and improvements, but improvements are improvements any way you look at it. Keep your eyes peeled if you use the HTC One M8 on Sprint as the update that includes the Eye Experience software is likely not too far off.
