As all of us Android fans already know, Google recently took the cover off of the biggest update to Android yet, Android 5.0 Lollipop. Ever since Google I/O we were forced to ponder and conspire what Android L actually stood for, people came up with Lime, Lemon, Lava Cake, Lemon Drop, Lettuce, Licorice, and many more. Google even went as far as to hold auditions for the name of Android L which they posted on YouTube for peoples entertainment. Needless to say, Lollipop came out on top and we are sure that all of you are wondering when your device will get it, so continue reading and hopefully you will find out.
Nexus
Of course we are going to start off by talking about Nexus devices, these are Google’s devices and are more than likely the group of devices that will receive the Lollipop update first. Google has already made an official announcement saying that the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, both variants of the Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 will be receiving an update to Android Lollipop in the “coming weeks.” Of course the Nexus 6 and 9 will come out of the box running Android Lollipop when they launch sometime in the first half of November.
Google Play Edition
Also part of Google’s lineup of devices, the Google Play Edition devices, will be receiving the update to Android Lollipop Google has said that they also, like the Nexus devices, will get the Android Lollipop update in the “coming weeks.” Unfortunately, Google has made no mention of which Google Play Edition devices will be receiving the update to Android Lollipop, but this can be looked at as a good thing. This more than likely means that Google will be pushing Android Lollipop to all of the existing Google Play Edition devices which would be a great move on Google’s part.
Motorola
Next let’s talk about the company that has ambitious plans to get their devices updated to Android Lollipop before Google. We are talking about Motorola, the company who got their flagship device updated to Android 4.4 KitKat before Google could get the Nexus 4 updated. That was an amazing feat and Motorola has announced that they are going to attempt the same feat this year with Android Lollipop, this is great news if you own a newer Motorola device. Motorola has announced that they plan to update both variants of the Moto X and Moto G as well as the Moto E, Droid Maxx, Droid Ultra and Droid Mini. This is a pretty substantial amount of devices that Motorola plans to update and we applaud them for that.
Samsung
Next we have the biggest Android manufacturer, Samsung. As of right now they have not made any official announcements on which devices they plan to push Android Lollipop to. But we can make an educated guess on which devices will receive the Android Lollipop update based on Samsung’s track record. The Galaxy S5, Note 4, and pretty much any higher-end device that Samsung released in 2014 will more than likely receive the update at some point.
HTC
HTC has announced that the M7 and M8 will both be receiving the Android Lollipop update worldwide within 90 days of receiving final software from Google. So M7 and M8 owners should not have to wait more than a few months to receive Android Lollipop, a good move by HTC that will surely make their users happy.
LG
LG is next on the list on manufactures, but sadly they have no official announcements pertaining to Android Lollipop. Again, just as we did with Samsung, we can make an educated guess on which LG devices will receive the update. We foresee the G3 and G2 Pro receiving the update and we may even see the G2 get a little Lollipop love as well at some point.
Sony
Now we move onto our last manufacturer, Sony. Again, this manufacturer has made no official announcements on which of their device will receive Android Lollipop. We can almost guarantee you that the the entire Z3 line of devices will receive the update and some of the Z2 devices may see it as well later on.
