As our smartphones turn into mini computers, with larger QHD displays, multitasking capabilities, watching movies and more – the drains on our batteries are being increased, while battery technology is rather stagnant. The solution is to give our batteries the ability to charge very quickly…so if they do get down to 15-percent and we are headed out the door for a night on the town, a quick 15-minute charge will carry us through the evening. That is exactly what Qualcomm is accomplishing with first their Quick Charge 1.0 and now their newest Quick Charge 2.0 found in their 800 series of processors.
Qualcomm’s Quick Charge is quite advancement in smartphone battery management and it is something that is built directly into the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor – specifically their 800 series and the newest 2.0 version. If you owned a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which has a microUSB 3.0 port for charging and came with a 2.0-AMP plug, and noticed that it charged faster, Quick Charge was the main reason. With their Quick Charge technology, you can charge devices up to 75-percent faster – it safely uses the maximum power available from your Quick Charge 2.0 certified charger.
What is also good about this solution of Quick Charge is that it is fully forward and backward compatible, so there is no need to keep buying special chargers or cables. Once you buy a certified power adapter one time, you are good to go – this is needed to maximize the Quick Charge features. Most adapters are only 1 to 2-Amps and Quick Charge will utilize the power from a 3-Amp adaptor – this will give you the fastest charging speeds – a 60-percent charge in only 15-minutes. Branding is not a problem, so a Motorola Turbo Charger or HTC Rapid Charger 2.0 will both work on any device with the Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 built-in their Snapdragon 800 series processor…so when you switch devices, your charger still works.
The Snapdragon 800 series processors are in a lot of smartphones, so chances are good that your device may be a qualified device – check the Qualcomm link at the bottom and you can check to see if you device is on the list. Until a new battery technology is safely mass produced, Qualcomm’s Quick Charge is the next best thing.
