Google Hangouts is becoming more useful by the day. Google keeps on adding all sorts of useful features into its Hangouts app. We’ve seen tons of additions since the app was first launched, from integration with your SMS messages to the ability to share your location. These are just some of the examples which came to Hangouts over time. It seems like Google will add / is adding yet another rather useful features to its app, the ability to share your screen. This feature is available on the desktop version of Hangouts, but wasn’t available within Hangouts app, until now that is. I still don’t see the option in my app, but DroidApp sure has it. That Dutch portal shared some screenshots of the app and gave us some insight into the functionality by doing so.
First of all, the source claims that this feature will come via an in-app update, so you won’t have to update the app via the Google Play Store in order to get it, which is a bit weird, but alright. When you initiate a video call, you’ll see a floating window in the upper right corner with 3 options available to you, you’ll be able to change the position of that floating window as well as set those options within your notification bar, as shows down below. You’ll be able to play, pause and stop the screen share function via that floating window, those are the three options I mentioned. It seems like Google added another function along with this update, face recognition. I’m not exactly sure what does this function do exactly, in other words what purpose will it have within the app itself. I believe DroidApp wasn’t able to figure it out either because that option doesn’t work at the moment or something to that effect.
Either way, it’s nice to see some new options within the Google Hangouts app and I can see this screen share function as a useful addition to some people. I have no idea when will this feature rollout your way, the source was unable to give us the estimate either. It is possible that it will just pop up in your app all of the sudden soon and perhaps Google is just testing it on a limited number of users at the moment. Let us know if you have it already.
