Huawei is a rather interesting company. They’ve been manufacturing smartphones for a long time now and have started producing some really compelling devices lately. The Huawei Ascend 7 is a great phablet offering and it sports a premium build quality, not to mention Huawei’s Emotion UI is getting better by the day. Company’s leaked lineup for 2015 also looks promising, lead by Huawei’s alleged D8 flagship and Ascend Mate 8 phablet which will sport some really insane specifications, especially the D8, according to the listing at the very least. 2K display, 4GB of RAM and a yet unreleased Kirin 950 64-bit chip are mentioned. We’re not here to talk about Huawei’s smartphone lineup though, but Huawei’s latest remarks when it comes to mobile connectivity.
Huawei just announced that they signed an agreement with a Russian mobile operator MegaFon in order to develop and deploy 5G trial networks before the World Cup in 2018. These two companies will make an attempt to standardize 5G technology and creating a team to conduct trials and provide coverage at the 2018 World Cup tournament in Russia. First projects are expected to be completed by the end of June 2017. “With the help of MegaFon, we are confident of turning science-fiction-like service into 5G reality for citizens in Russia and soccer fans around the world, two years ahead of the industry’s estimated 5G introduction date of 2020.” said Ryan Ding, president of Huawei Products and Solutions.
Huawei is really going all-in when it comes to 5G connectivity, they’ve made investments in research of this technology in the past, this is just another way for Huawei to reach its goal. This is actually quite interesting, considering 4G is far from being available world-wide. Certain countries have access to decent 4G speeds, but the majority of countries out there have extremely poor 4G connectivity. Hopefully this 5G push can make carriers work harder and increase the level of presence when it comes to 4G. Huawei is eager to become the first to cross the finish line and wants to be ahead of the competition. Japan and South Korea expect 5G to become a reality by 2020 and Huawei is doing its best to stay ahead of NTT DoCoMo when it comes to developing 5G.
