Google’s Android division has been working on improving and updating its operating system over the years, but with Sundar Pichai at the helm, Google’s new Android 5.0 Lollipop may be one of their most progressive updates in the line of Android operating systems. According to Android’s Vice President of Engineering, Hiroshi Lockheimer, it was not intended to be such a major reworking, but with 64-bit upgrades to hardware and the new Material Design look, a major overhaul was needed. Android intended these changes to come over a period of time, not all at once, but claims that the new runtime Lollipop should run much smoother and fluid.
That newfound stability that Android 5.0 Lollipop is supposed to exhibit appears to be running a little whacky if you have the language set to French Canadian in the Language and Input menu. It seems to be affecting all devices that are running Lollipop, including the Nexus 4, 5 and even the new Nexus 9. According to our sources, when their Nexus 9 (a replacement one he got thinking he had a bad unit) is turned on and you plug it in to charge – it makes sounds at regular intervals while the screen flickers. If he unplugs the unit, it appears to work normally, and this does not happen when he has the tablet turned off to charge, only when it is on. When he switched back to US-English, it appears to work just fine and the problem ‘disappears.’ His Nexus 5 updated to 5.0 Lollipop yesterday and he is experiencing the same issue – it appears to be that French-Canadian language setting.
According to XDA, a bug report has been opened by Google – it happens whether it is plugged into a UBS port for charging or the wall socket. It appears that it gets stuck in a SystemUI crash in a bootloop of some sort. The only workaround so far is to change the language from French to English until Google can get a fix out to the Canadian Nexus users. You can also keep the device off while you are charging as another workaround and hopefully Google will get out an OTA update…soon!
Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and please let us know if you are experiencing the same issues with your Nexus device with Android 5.0 Lollipop installed…as always, we would love to hear from you.
