Wondering how good the Motorola DROID Turbo camera really is? Well you’re not alone. Especially with Motorola’s history of having pretty mediocre cameras. The DROID Turbo features a 21MP Sony sensor on board this time around. And it’s definitely a great camera. Compared to the sensor that Sony has on the Xperia Z3, it’s pretty good, but I think that where Sony’s Xperia Z3 comes out on top is all the features and modes on the Xperia Z3. Of course, again that’s just my opinion. We’ll be doing a comparison between the two in the near future though. So you’ll want to stay tuned. The Motorola DROID Turbo has a 5.2-inch 2560×1440 resolution display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor which is clocked at 2.7GHz, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage (or 64GB if you get the Ballistic Nylon model). There’s also a massive 3900mAh battery inside as well as the 21MP camera on the back. It’s actually available right now from Verizon, if you’re looking to pick it up.
As far as the camera goes, I’m quite satisfied with this camera. It’s definitely a huge improvement over the 2013 DROIDs and the Moto X from last year. It’s even an improvement over this year’s Moto X. Now how it compares to the Nexus 6, well we’ll have to wait and see. But don’t worry, we’ll have a comparison between those two really soon. The camera UI is as simple as it’s always been for Motorola. Just tap anywhere to take a photo. I also had Auto HDR on for just about every picture. Now there’s a slight delay when taking pictures, and it’s actually a bit odd, and likely due to HDR. But when you take a photo, it grabs the photo when you tap on the shutter key, but doesn’t finish processing for another second or two. Not a huge deal but definitely something to check out.
