It is no secret that Samsung continues to make high-end flip phones for the Asian market only – their infamous ‘W Series,” which have been on the market in China since 2006. Many people have wondered why they do no bring a flip model to the U.S. as I am sure there are a lot of flip phone ‘closet wannabes’ over here that would just ‘flip’ out if Samsung would bring one of these babies to our shores…but it looks like we will never know. In the U.S., we describe a premium mobile product as something that is trendy or has the best specifications on the market. In China, their concept of ‘premium’ is based on thousands of years of unchanged cultural identity, ideology and respect for the arts. This is what makes a ‘premium’ phone design in China – check out the gallery below.
The last couple in the gallery looks a lot like the Samsung Galaxy Golden 2 that we talked about last month. Even though the flip design is a throwback to the early years of mobile phones, do not let these new designs fool you into thinking that they are not a full-fledged smartphone. The Galaxy Golden 2 comes with TWO 3.9-inch Super AMOLED displays – one on the outside and one on the inside. The device has a lot of processing power as well with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core clocked at 2.5GHz – the same one found in the Galaxy S5 smartphone. It also sports 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage with a microSD slot to add additional storage. In the camera area Samsung put in its 16MP shooter and a 3.7MP front-facing camera, just like what is in the Galaxy Note 4. The Chinese may like their traditions, but it also looks like they want premium specifications, as well – is that the yin and yang of a smartphone?
