I spent much of my childhood in what was at the time called West Germany. As an impressionable kid, living in Deutschland gave me an appreciation of a few things that I would have otherwise missed out on. One was the Cold War at the sharp end, one is bockwurst and another is how some expressions or words sound much better in German. The word that springs to mind around about the time of a Nexus product launch is “verz¶gerung,” which translates as “delay.” The time between the new Nexus device(s) being announced and then being launched always feels a lot longer than it really is, but when there’s a delay involved it feels so much longer. This brings me on to T-Mobile USA, where a small number of stores were reputed to be receiving their stock allocation of the Google Nexus 6 on the weekend of the 8 and 9 November. Unfortunately, it transpired that the number of stores receiving their stock was very limited. Verz¶gerung! Luckily, it appears that over the weekend just passed the situation has been largely resolved and just in the nick of time as T-Mobile officially launch the Nexus 6 this Wednesday.
The Nexus 6 is Google’s latest Nexus smartphone. As a Nexus device, you get the pure, unadulterated Android experience. You’re also likely to be amongst the first to receive the new software update when Google release a new version. This is Android as Google’s engineers envisaged it without any meddling by manufacturers. The Nexus 6 also brings a 6.0-inch AMOLED screen, a 2.7 GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3 GB of RAM and either 32 GB or 64 GB of onboard storage. You also benefit from a 3,220 mAh battery, a Motorola Turbo fast charger, Qi wireless charging and an optically stabilized, 13 MP rear camera.
The device isn’t officially for sale at T-Mobile until Wednesday, but we’ve seen unconfirmed reports that some stores have offered to sell the device early. If you’ve been sitting on the fence with the device concerning the size of the screen (as at 6.0-inch, it’s a big handset), or perhaps the design, this could be an opportunity to go down to your local T-Mobile store to see if they have the demo handsets in yet and if they’re not out on display, perhaps they’ll let you have a look?
