Verizon's LG G3 Is First Of The G3's To Get CyanogenMod Port

It’s been an interesting year for Cyanogen. The company who started life as an alternative community based and driven android ROM developer hit the bigtime when the One Plus One launched with their ROM as its ‘stock’ version of Android. This was not the first time CyanogenMod (as it was known) came loaded on a device. Prior to the OnePlus One CyanogenMod was pre-installed on the OPPO N1. However, the launch with the One Plus One really did push the company far more into the limelight then ever before. Since then and based on other manufacturers interest in CyanogenMod, the company split their version of Android into two, CyanogenMod (the community build) and CyanogenOS (the commercial build).

Since then (today in fact) news broke that Cyanogen and OnePlus have had a bit of a falling out due to the Indian release of the OnePlus One. As Cyanogen had a pre-agreed exclusivity arrangement with Micromaxx, the One Plus One when it launches on December 2nd wont be able to offer CyanogenOS. Instead, it seems the device will come loaded with some form of the community CynaogenMod instead. How greatly, this will effect the relationship between Cyanogen and OnePlus remains to be seen at the moment. But that is news for another day.

Although a lot of the news recently has focused on CyanogenOS, the community variant CyanogenMod should not be so quickly forgotten. This is the mainstay of the company and is extremely popular among users. New devices are added to this build extremely routinely, due to the community of developers involved. It now seems the LG G3 variant has gotten its first port of CyanogenMod. Strangely, it is the Verizon version which is being debuted. If you are familiar with CyanogenMod then this is a ‘nightly’ version. For those unfamiliar, this means it is an experimental version and not stable. As such it is wise to expect some bugs. By now, you should know how to install the ROM. If you don’t, then you will need to be careful. Things can go wrong with installing other ROMs. You will need to be rooted and will need prior knowledge. If you don’t know what you are doing then make sure you research before you start. That said the ROM is live and you can click here to head over to the download page. This is CM11 and as such equates to Android 4.4 (KitKat). So no Lollipop here guys.
