This is pretty typical news from Amazon, just after Christmas, as we see this every year. That a ton of new people signed up for Amazon Prime, as people want the free two-day shipping for their gifts they are buying. But to see over 10 million people sign up for a free 30-day trial, is pretty amazing. And that might equal up to $990 million in revenue for Amazon. As simple math would show us. Since Amazon Prime is $99/year and 10 million people paying $99 comes out to $990 million, close to a billion in revenue. Not bad at all.
In March of 2013, Amazon reportedly only had about 10 million Prime members in total. While currently, there’s no accurate number provided by Amazon as to how many Prime members there are now, there’s at least double that. As long as they haven’t lost any in the past 20 months or so. That number is actually lower than I thought it would be.
For those unaware, Amazon Prime provides you with free two-day shipping on a ton of items that it sells, with $3.99 for next day shipping on many items. Additionally it also gives you a ton of Amazon Prime Instant Video content and Prime Music included. So if you buy a lot of items from Amazon, then Amazon prime is definitely a great service to pay for, and if you’re a student, you can get it for $49/year and at that price, it’s almost stupid not to subscribe to it.
I’m sure many of you did Christmas shopping on Amazon this holiday season. How many of you signed up for Amazon Prime for the first time this holiday season? How are you liking the service so far? Are you thinking about keeping it after the 30 days are up? Be sure to let us know in the comments down below.
