This year was really exciting for Xiaomi, the company grew a lot in 2014 and their results clearly show that. Not only did they become a more recognized brand but they managed to ship about three times as much devices this year compared to 2013. The company shipped 19 million devices last year, while they raised that number to about 60 million this year. Well, next year could be even more exciting for Xiaomi, they intend to hit the 100 million mark as far as device sales go, and it seems like they’ll open the year with the launch of their new smartphone. If you recall, Xiaomi’s CEO announced yesterday that the company will unveil their new flagship next month, something we did not expect.
Some people say that Xiaomi might opt for a Xiaomi Mi4S launch, but I really doubt that, I’m rather confident Xiaomi will launch the Mi5 in January, their CEO certainly wanted to bring the hype up with his announcement yesterday. That being said, an alleged Xiaomi flagship leaked in China, as you can see in the image above this article. The device is black, as you can see, and the display is allegedly somewhere between 5.5 and 5.7-inches big. If this is true, that’s a huge leak compared to the 5-inch panel on the Xiaomi Mi4, I’d guess it’s the 5.5-inch panel though, 5.7 just seems like a too big of a difference. The device sports extremely thin bezels, which is great, but we can’t exactly see its design all too well considering that this unit is black and the photo isn’t exactly high-res.
As far as its specifications go, this handset is expected to feature (according to previous leaks) 5.5 or 5.7-inch QuadHD (2560 x 1440) display along with 3GB of RAM and a 20.7-megapixel rear-facing camera. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810, a 64-bit octa-core processor is expected to power on this thing while the Adreno 430 GPU will be there for graphics rendering considering it ships with the Snapdragon 810 SoC. Earlier reports also stated that Xiaomi intends to manufacture a limited edition model with a sapphire screen, though that’s probably going to happen later in the year.
Xiaomi did confirm earlier that they won’t participate in CES in January, but the device might launch after CES, January 15th is the rumored date, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
