Xiaomi has been all over the news lately. This fast-growing Chinese smartphone manufacturer has had a great year as far as device sales go, the company sold about three times more devices than they did last year, which is a huge achievement. They have huge plans for the future and plan to expand to other markets such as Latin America, India, Russia… but those plans might get somewhat delayed. Xiaomi has been sued by Ericsson in India for infringing on their patents and their sales will definitely be affected by that. Other than that, things are going really well for this company.
We’ve been seeing a ton of rumors and leaks regarding Xiaomi’s upcoming handsets and when they might get launched. Xiaomi Mi5 was the most frequent guest in the headlines recently and most of those rumors have been pointing at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, which will take place in January, as a possible release date. Well, we can tell you with utmost certainty that you won’t see that happen during CES. Xiaomi reached out to us and confirmed that the company won’t participate in CES, in other words we won’t be seeing any device launched during the show in Las Vegas.
Xiaomi’s current flagship, the Mi4, was announced back in July and released in August, so it’s way too early for Xiaomi to launch its successor. This was to be expected, but rumors were extremely persistent so we thought it’s about time to clear things up. This doesn’t mean Xiaomi won’t launch anything in Q1, that is to be seen, but the company won’t participate in CES, so that’s definitely off the table. That being said, what are your thoughts on Xiaomi in general, do you think they’ll have a hard time expanding their business to other markets following this injunction in India? Do you think other manufacturers will go down the same path as Ericsson and decide to sue Xiaomi if they enter other markets worldwide? Let us know, we always like to hear from you.
