Yesterday was a busy a day for Google as we saw quite a lot of announcements and updates landing. So far today, it seems just as busy, although the updates and announcements today are all about the Nexus range and not necessarily good news. In particular, they are surrounding the Google Nexus 5. You see, this morning it was reported that the Nexus 5 had officially stopped being produced. The reports suggested that in terms of stock, all there was left is all there will be. In short, when they are gone, they are gone. This came as quite a surprise to many, as it was felt the Nexus 5 was a good mid-range priced Nexus device. Once the google Nexus 6 hit the market at basically double the value, the Nexus 5 seems almost perfectly placed.
To add to this morning’s report, this was followed by another report this morning that the red and white Nexus 5’s had already and permanently been removed from the Play Store. This resulted in the conclusion that these two devices are already dead. Basically, if you planned to get a red or white one before the ‘when they are gone they are gone’ stock expired, you were already out of luck.
Well, the very latest on the situation, is that although the ‘when they are gone they are gone’ headline is the big news, it might not be as imminent as we all thought. Reports are now coming in (source link below) that Google are planning to sell the Nexus 5 throughout Q1 of 2015. This is in effect, up until the end of March. With that in mind, there is either an abundance of stock piled up in warehouses or that the Nexus 5 has not imminently stopped production and instead is more in the process of stopping production. Either way, it would seem that there is no immediate rush to run out and grab a Nexus 5 if you still want one. That said, based on the report earlier, you still won’t be able to grab the red or white Nexus 5. Are you planning to pick one up before the device does reach its final conclusion?
