We knew this day was inevitable, we just didn’t want to accept it and now it’s arrived, the day the that both the red and white Google Nexus 5 models are taken off of the Google Play Store. Yes folks that’s right, if you were still planning on purchasing a Nexus 5 from the Play Store then you have a pretty limited selection of colors to choose from now. In fact, you only have a single color to choose from, good ole’ black, the definitive smartphone color.
The fact that Google has stopped selling these two colors of the Nexus 5 doesn’t really matter that much though as it has become virtually impossible to get your hands on a new Nexus 5 anyways. Ever since Google launched the Nexus 6 they appear to have significantly slowed down the production of the Nexus 5 making it much harder to get your hands on. It’s hard to find a time where there are even any Nexus 5 in stock on the Play Store these days despite Google promising to produce them indefinitely.
When the Nexus 6 launched and Google promised to keep producing and selling the Nexus 5 as well it came as great news. The Nexus 6 and Nexus 5 coexisting on the Play Store was a great situation for consumers, they both ran the latest and cleanest version of Android and offered two completely different price points. The Nexus 5 being the cheaper and more accessible choice while the Nexus 6 was the more premium and expensive choice. Sadly, it appears this will no longer be the case.
This news of the red and white Nexus 5 no longer being sold through the Play Store comes right on the heels of the news that the Nexus 5 has been taken out of production entirely. This being said, this means that whatever black Nexus 5’s Google has left will probably be sold very quickly and that will be the end of the Nexus 5. All of this Nexus 5 news came completely out of left field, we all knew it would happen eventually but definitely not this early. Maybe Google is making room for a new Nexus device to take the place of the Nexus 5?
