Huawei is one of the three smartphone manufacturers which also make its own smartphone SoC, only Samsung and LG make them next to Huawei. This Chinese OEM had issues with smartphone SoCs in the past, but for a long time now Huawei makes Kirin processors which are more than capable of handling processing on smartphones, they’re actually extremely solid performers and Huawei uses them in their handsets, even flagship ones. It would be interesting to see those chips in smartphones made by other OEMs, but I guess that will happen eventually too. Anyhow, Huawei teased their upcoming 64-bit SoC yesterday via a rather interesting teaser image which you can check here. This Chinese smartphone giant actually put 2 walnuts in an image and clearly pointed towards the upcoming 64-bit chip (the fact that they included the number “64” next to them only made it more obvious).
Well, Huawei decided to release yet another teaser, and this time around the company actually reveals part of the naming of this SoC. Huawei mentioned yesterday that the processor will be unveiled on December 3rd, which is tomorrow, and if you take a look at the image above you’ll notice the naming I mentioned earlier. The image itself shows us an hourglass in which you’ll notice the words “Kirin” and a number next to them. The number isn’t all that obvious considering that the majority of it isn’t visible and is covered with sand on the image above. I’m not going to guess what will Huawei introduce, but according to the source, that might be Huawei Kirin 620, a mid-range CPU. Either way, we’ll find out soon enough, Huawei will introduce this thing tomorrow and we’ll know all the details then.
As a side note, Huawei’s Kirin processors are powering a number of Huawei handset at the moment, most notably Huawei Ascend Mate 7, which is Huawei’s beastly phablet offering. This handset is powered by Kirin 925 octa-core CPU, I’d actually like to guess that Huawei will introduce a high-end chip, but it might as well be a mid-range offering. As I said, we’ll find out soon, I’d like to stay out of the guessing game this time around.
