Meizu has been all over the place lately. The company has released 2 flagship handsets in under 3 months. First they announced the Meizu MX4 back in September and only two and a half months later, this Chinese smartphone manufacturer has released the upgraded MX4 Pro. Both of these handsets are truly great pieces of hardware and are also rather affordable, especially if you consider their price. Meizu is also expected to launch an extremely affordable device today which will allegedly sport a 720p display and 2GB of RAM amongst other specifications. This Chinese OEM seems to have something else up their sleeve, let me explain.
According to our sources, Meizu will announce another “product” this month, around Christmas that is. I quoted the word product because the information we got wasn’t all that precise, but what we do know is that this product will be a first member of a new Meizu series of devices. This is really vague, but let’s try to get to the bottom of it. So, Meizu already has Meizu MX series which is doing great as far as sales go and has recently introduced the first MX Pro device. Meizu is also expected to launch an extremely affordable device today, so what could this be all about? Well, the first thing that came to my mind is… a tablet. Think about it, Xiaomi has its MiPad tablet which is a great device and is selling rather well while Meizu really doesn’t have anything to compete with in that area. Considering the “new series” part, it leads me to believe Meizu will launch its first tablet offering this month. I could be totally off because the information is really vague, but I’m sure we’ll get a ton of leaks before this device actually launches later this month. This could also be a fitness tracker or something of that sort, but I really doubt that, my gut tells me this is a tablet device we’re talking about here.
Either way, Meizu is really doing everything they can in order to compete with the likes of Xiaomi in China and they’re doing really well thus far. I’m really interested to see what else Meizu has up their sleeve.
