Micromax Unveil The Selfie Focused Micromax Canvas Selfie With 13MP Front Facing Camera

Some manufacturers out there, really like releasing smartphones. These companies not only like releasing phones but seem to have a bit of an addiction for how often they release devices. Samsung is a prime example. Barely a week passes for the South Korean tech giant without them releasing some device (or variant of an already existing device) somewhere in the world. Intex in India is another prime example of a company who can barely make it through a month without bringing to market a new device. To add to this addict-prone manufacturer list is another Indian OEM, Micromax. They too seem quite keen on releasing devices at an almost unbelievable rate. Only this morning we reported the company had launched their Micromax Canvas Nitro A310. Now it seems they have also launched another device today.

The one common thread between these habitual device-release manufacturers is that they like to release a device which focuses heavily on one feature. Instead of offering an all-in-one type device, they seem to prefer to make one feature dominant and build the rest of the phone around this. This morning’s Micromax offering is no different with a hefty focus on selfies. In fact, the more you look at the device the more it seems to resemble the recently released HTC selfie camera, the HTC Desire EYE. As mentioned, the Micromax Canvas Selfie is heavily selfie focused with the inclusion of a 13 MP front facing camera (FFC) with LED flash. In addition to the FFC, the rear camera (like the Desire EYE) also comes equipped with a 13MP shooter. This one accompanied with dual LED flash and a Sony sensor. The Canvas Selfie also comes with a 4.7″ display with a 1280 x 720 resolution. Inside, the Canvas Selfie comes equipped with 2GB RAM and a 1.7GHz Octa-core processor. In terms of memory, the Canvas Selfie offers 16GB internal storage along with an expandable microSD card slot (up to 32GB). Additional features on offer include dual-SIM, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G, a 2,300mAh battery and running on Android 4.4 (KitKat).

Another similarity between the Micromax and HTC offerings is that the Canvas Selfie also comes with a suite of software specifically developed to enrich the selfie experience including ‘Eye Enhancement’ . If you are interested in an HTC look-alike selfie camera then the Micromax offering is expected to go on sale in India in the first couple of weeks of January. The Canvas Selfie will be available in either Mystic Blue or Angelic White and will come with a faux leather finish. Unfortunately, no details on price were provided at the launch so it is difficult to comment on its worth. As the release date is quite near though it shouldn’t be too long before we have more details on the price. So what do you think?
