Soak tests are a common thing among the world of Motorola devices. Motorola even has a special group of people that get these types of updates in order to test software updates before they’re rolled out to the general public. This group is called the Motorola Feedback Network, and while the name is a little confusing given exactly what’s involved here, know that when you’re a part of this group you’re going to get those magic updates before pretty much anyone else out there. This time around Motorola is sending out an update for the Verizon DROID Turbo, the super phone that they unleashed upon the US not too long ago, and it looks like this could very well be the eagerly awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the phone.
Motorola has really been on point lately for getting big, important updates out to its phones quickly, including the 2014 Moto X which got its Android 5.0 Lollipop update before many people even received their Nexus 6’s; a feat that was only met by last year’s Android 4.4 KitKat update rolling out to the 2013 Moto X before all of Google’s Nexus line got it. Motorola’s Android 5.0 Lollipop update includes not only the basic Lollipop functions of course, but also all of Motorola’s customizations including Moto Assist, Moto Voice, Moto Display and others.
There’s also a possibility that this update could be for just the Voice over LTE function, where instead of using Verizon’s aging CDMA network to deliver pretty terrible quality voice calls, the phone instead uses Verizon’s excellent LTE network to deliver super high quality HD Voice calls. There’s no telling if this VoLTE update will be included with the Android 5.0 Lollipop update or if it’ll be a separate update, but either way it’s coming to the DROID Turbo in the near future. Anyone who’s used HD Voice on other networks knows just how drastic the call quality difference is. People literally sound like they are standing next to you when talking through the phone, and HD Voice has some considerable noise cancellation going on meaning even in a crowded, busy area the person on the other end should be able to hear you. We’ll keep you updated as soon as this update rolls out, but for now make sure to sign up through the Motorola Feedback Network and keep clicking that update button!
