Since Google unveiled Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and uploaded the code to the AOSP everyone is keen to know when it will land for their device. The Nexus range is already there, as is a couple of Motorola devices. Not forgetting the LG G3 also seems to be pretty much done. However, Samsung is one of those OEMs who everyone is watching. This is probably because they are accredited with being the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer and that means there are quite a lot of Samsung owners awaiting Lollipop. Another interesting reason behind Samsung is that they simply have a wider range of devices than almost anyone. As such, it will be interesting to see which devices get the update and which do not. It is largely expected that the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will both get the update. We have seen a leaked video of Lollipop on the S4 and in some regions the S5 has started receiving the update. But for the rest, the question remains open.
Well, if you are a Samsung owner then you might find this interesting. The Finnish Samsung website has revealed an update list, which includes a number of devices listing Lollipop. Some of them are as expected, but there are a few unexpected add-ons. For those interested, the lists states that the Samsung Galaxy Alpha will receive Lollipop. In addition, The Samsung Galaxy S4 and S5 Mini are both listed as due to receive Lollipop. Interestingly, the list currently states that there is ‘No information’ on the next update for the Samsung Galaxy S5. This maybe because, the device is already technically on Lollipop, so don’t worry if you are an S5 owner.
In terms of the Note range, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is listed as due Lollipop, which is as expected. However, the list also does state the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will also receive the update. Even more interesting is that the lists states that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will also receive the update. According to the list, that is all that is defined as receiving Lollipop. All the other Samsung devices currently list ‘No information’, but it maybe worth keeping an eye on the site for this to change. It is not clear how accurate this information is, but as this is an official Samsung site, it is the best confirmation we could hope to get, without Samsung coming out and announcing the updates.
