One of the big announcements at this year’s annual Google I/O event was that of Android TV. This was in short Google’s attempt at entering your living room entertainment. In even shorter terms, bringing the android experience to your TV. This of course, is not Google’s first attempt at the TV sphere. They had previously tried (and failed) with Google TV, but you can’t keep a good Google down. In spite of the announcement coming all the way back in June, we have barely got to see the platform manifest into reality. In fact, only the Nexus Player has launched offering an Android experience. That said, this will soon change.
Reports are coming in that Sony will indeed employ Android TV in their 2015 big screen offerings. What’s more is that they could land as early as February. According to a Sony insider who spilled the beans to Mobile Geeks, it seems Sony are already currently testing of the Sony Android TV’s and that mass production should begin in January. Although it is pretty obvious that the a TV with Android installed will come with the various Google apps like the Play Store, YouTube and so on. What is interesting, is that as these are Sony products, it is being reported that they will have access to the various Sony (specifically PlayStation) ecosystem too. Even more interesting is that PlayStation Now (cloud gaming system) will be directly linked to Google Games. Sweet huh! There will also be additional features as well like NFC built-in so that you can link your android device and transfer files directly. Not to mention as this is Sony, you will be able to use a Sony PlayStation pad to control the system.
If you are starting to get excited, then you will probably want to know about the costs. Well, according to the source, it seems the TV’s will start around the $700 marker for a 43″ device. If the resolution or features on this one are not up to par, then enhanced variants will be available and ranging up to $4000. So what do you think? Looking forward to Android TV in general? How does it sound combined with Sony’s ecosystem? Let us know.
