Just over a week ago a number of Nexus devices started seeing their second Android 5.0 Lollipop update land. While most of the world is waiting for their devices to go from Android 4.4 (KitKat) to Android 5.0 (Lollipop), these Nexus devices were moving from Android 5.0 (Lollipop) up to Android 5.0.1 (Lollipop). In fairness, this is just an incremental update and as such there will be no dramatic changes like we are seeing from 4.4 to 5.0. It is much more likely to be a bug fix and performance related update. That said, an update is still an update.
Interestingly, some of the Nexus devices took longer to get their incremental update than others. For instance, both the newly released Google Nexus 6 and Nexus 4 both received their updates after the bulk of the updates for other Nexus devices was released. Even more interestingly was the Google Nexus 5, seemed to be the last of the Nexus devices to get the update and still has not seen the update official roll out with Google only still listing the 5.0 factory image. Well, this might be about to change.
Sprint have announced today that their Nexus 5 devices will begin to receive the Android 5.0.1 update landing today. If you do own a Nexus 5 then remember that these OTA updates can take some time to roll-out fully and you may be waiting a couple of days before it does reach your particular device. That said if you are on Sprint then rest assured it is on its way. It is still not clear as to why the Nexus 5 did take so long for the update to arrive. Either way though it is now en-route. This update will bring your device in line with the other Nexus devices on build number LRX22C. In terms of the actual update, don’t be expecting too many differences. Sprint list the update as providing ‘Miscellaneous Android Updates’. So there is unlikely to be anything too special tucked away within it. If you are a Nexus 5 owner on Sprint and see the update landing soon, then make sure to let us know.
