Xiaomi is making waves in Asia, the company is selling devices like hotcakes. China and India are their main markets and every time I stumble upon sales number of this Chinese OEM, I can’t help but wonder what would happen if they actually manage to expand to other markets without some serious issues. Their devices are extremely affordable and yet they offer great specifications and build quality, which is commendable, no matter which way you spin it. Xiaomi uses “Flash Sales” in India to sell a ton of devices quickly, they sell them via Flipkart. Such strategies work perfectly in Asia it seems, it will be interesting to see them in action outside of Asia though. Anyhow, you may recall that Xiaomi sold 10,000 Redmi Note handsets in Indonesia in just 40 seconds earlier this month, well, it seems like they’re doing far better in India.
You may also recall that Xiaomi Redmi Note (3G and 4G variants) launched in India about a week ago, both the 3G and 4G variants. According to Xiaomi’s co-founder, Lin Bin, Xiaomi sold 50,000 Redmi Note (both version) handsets in just 6 seconds. That’s just insane, India really is a huge market for Xiaomi and it seems they could sell anything over there. Let me remind you that Redmi Note 3G costs INR 8,999 ($145) in India, while the 4G variant of the device is priced at INR 9,999 ($162). This is one of the fastest Xiaomi sales I’ve stumbled upon and I’ve seen a ton of them thus far. Redmi 1S sells like crazy in India every time Xiaomi decides to launch a batch via “Flash Sales” and it seems like Redmi Note is in similar demand in India.
Redmi Note features a 5.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS LCD display along with 1 or 2GB of RAM (depending on the version, the 3G version comes with 1GB of RAM, while the 4G version sports 2GB of RAM) and 8GB of internal storage, which is expandable via MicroSD card up to 32GB (64GB in the LTE variant). The 3G variant is powered by MediaTek’s MT6592 octa-core processor which comes with Mali-450MP4 GPU for graphics processing. On the other hand, the 4G variant comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz and an Adreno 305 GPU. On the back of this device (both variants) you can find a 13-megapixel camera flanked by a LED flash while there’s a 5-megapixel shooter located up front. 3200mAh battery is built-in and ready to go and both of them ship with Android 4.2 JellyBean out of the box with Xiaomi’s very own MIUI OS on top of it.
