Coolpad X7 Gets Unveiled In China; 1080p Display, 2GB Of RAM And 4G LTE In Tow

Coolpad isn’t exactly the first brand you’ll think about when you hear the word “smartphone”, but this China-based company has released a ton of devices in 2014. They can make a rather solid looking and functioning device when they want to and their handsets are usually priced really low, which is always a plus, of course. This Chinese OEM even offers their devices outside of China, in select markets, and it seems like they’re doing well for themselves. Well, Coolpad announced their new device, and it’s rather alright if you ask me.

The Coolpad X7 (also known as Coolpad 8690) sports a 5.2-inch Full HD 1080p (1920 x 1080) display, 2GB of RAM for all your multitasking needs and 16GB of in-built memory. MediaTek’s MT6595 processor (though there might be a Snapdragon 801 version in the works) is powering on this handset and Android 4.4.2 KitKat comes pre-installed here with Coolpad’s UI on top of top of it, of course. Camera specs aren’t available just yet, but there’s a dual-LED flash present on the back of the device, as you can see in the images. This is a dual-SIM handset and it support 4G LTE connectivity. Coolpad did not reveal the pricing of this handset just yet, but I bet it will be really affordable.

Smartphone market in China is really saturated, many companies offer their devices and you really need to have a compelling product in order to leave your mark there. Coolpad is a well-known brand in China, and as I already mentioned, they do offer their devices out of China as well, so I’m certain this handset will find its way to consumers. Its design is nothing special though, it’s rather industrial I’d say. If you’re interested in checking out how it looks, take a look at the gallery down below and you’ll see a bunch of hands-on images, courtesy of pcpop.com. When you’re done doing that, let us know what you think of this handset and do you believe it can compete with other handsets out on the market today, presuming Coolpad will price it accordingly, of course.

EDIT: 13-megapixel sensor is located at the back of this handset and an 8-megapixel shooter is available on the phone’s front side. The phone has glass both on its front and back sides, and will be available in three versions. The first version will cost 1,599 Yuan ($257) and will be powered by MediaTek’s MT6595 which will sport 2GB of RAM and will be a single SIM 4G handset. The second, dual 4G SIM, version will cost 1,699 Yuan ($273), and the last model will cost 1,999 Yuan ($322) and will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 processor.
