Android 5.0 Lollipop is the latest version of the Android Operating System and yet it is on very few mobile devices.  It has been out now for about two months, but hardly anybody is enjoying the benefits that it offers – according to Google’s new platform distribution numbers, Lollipop didn’t even hit the 0.1-percentage cutoff required for them to even be represented in the data!  You would hope that by now, more people would be using the latest and greatest that Google has to offer.

Some of that fault falls directly on Google’s Nexus program – part of the blame goes to the design…the normally suburban, middle class, Nexus smartphone was all of a sudden a big, super-spec’d and expensive device.  It was quite a shock to the Nexus nation, but even those that wanted to buy the device, it was nowhere to be found and out-of-stock constantly.  The Nexus 9, built by HTC was not the hit that they were hoping for, certainly not like the Nexus 7.

The manufacturers claim that they are working as fast as possible to get 5.0.1 Lollipop out to their devices – some claimed they would get the updates out by the end of 2014, but we all knew better.  However, the first quarter of 2015 is a more realistic goal, from what our source is telling us.  We will go through the confirmed list of flagship devices and list what the latest dates are for these updates and included, where we could, the Canadian dates.

Let’s start with Motorola – the Moto X 2014 update is already rolling out on the TELUS network and they are soak-testing on it the WIND Mobile.  For the Moto X 2103, the Moto G 2013, Moto G LTE, Moto G 2014 and the Moto E…there is no confirmed time frame.

Samsung has confirmed the following devices will get their 5.0.1 upgrade, but all of the upgrade dates are rumored at this time.  Galaxy S5 (January), the Galaxy S5 Mini, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy Note 2 are all slated for ‘later in 2015.’  The Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3 and Note 4 are rumored to get their update after the Galaxy S5.

With LG, the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 updates are now available and the LG G2 is rolling out internationally, while the LG G3 update is coming to Canada in early 2015.  HTC scheduled their HTC One M7 and One M8 both for February.

Sony has their Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z2 as no confirmed time frame.  The Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact are confirmed for the first half of February. Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know when you receive your Android 5.0.1 Lollipop upgrade…as always, we would love to hear from you.
