Oppo has released two really compelling devices at the end of last year, Oppo N3 and R5. The N3 is Oppo’s newest flagship offering and it features a unique auto rotating electric camera on top of the device, while the R5 was the thinnest smartphone in the world at the moment, it’s not anymore, but it is only 0.10mm thicker than the currently thinnest smartphone, Vivo’s X5 Max. Oppo is a well-known brand in China and they really do make quality devices, though their pricing is a bit off at times and can attach a rather high price tags to their devices. I hope Oppo will find a way to change this in the future.
Anyhow, we’re here to talk about Oppo U3, which appeared on GFXBench back in November and now got certified by TENAA (China’s equivalent to the FCC) in China. What’s interesting about this device is that it might be the thinnest smartphone in the world to offer a 4X Optical Zoom. Oppo U3 is only 9mm thick according to the listing, which actually makes it thinner than the recently announced Asus ZenFone Zoom, which is 11.95mm thick. Interested? Read on.
Let’s take a look at the specifications of this phone, which seem to be somewhat different than the ones that were leaked on GFXBench. The phone will feature a 5.9-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card slot). The phone will be powered by MediaTek’s octa-core chip clocked at 1.7GHz and the phone will measure 156.8 x 81.8 x 9 while it will weight 180 grams, which is not all that light, but it’s not heavy either. As far as its cameras go, this phone will feature 13 and 5-megapixel snapper on its back and front sides, respectively.
We don’t know how much will this handset cost once Oppo launches it, but I’m guessing the price will be somewhat lower than R5’s price.
